Homologation of the Corsa Motorsports GZ09-SH Completed

With the initial outing for the Corsa Motorsports GZ09-SH Hybrid Electric LMP1 racecar at the  team’s home race at the Utah Grand Prix at Miller Motorsports Park doomed to a demonstration event only as the team awaited the safety certification of the battery hold-down mechanism by the ACO and the FIA, the tests were conducted in the UK subjecting the battery hold down component to a rigorous crash test simulating an impact of 60g to determine whether the mechanism would retain the battery and not permit it to escape the survival cell of the world’s most technically advanced racecar.

Without certification of the component, Corsa was forced to run the car at its home race in all timed and official session of the Utah event as a non-hybrid while awaiting the formal safety certification by the Paris-based rules and sanctioning body.

With the Northeast Grand Prix looming on July 18, the team prepared for participation but without the car and without homologation, there was certain uncertainty as team awaited return of the car from the UK and word from Paris on the crash test results which were handed down positively at the week’s end insuring that the car’s debut at Lime Rock as an officially certified hybrid propulsion system would take place.

The team went into hyper mode receiving the car on Sunday, July 12 just prior to an exhibition date at the U.S. Department of Energy, the car having had no pre-race preparation completed and placing the team at a significant disadvantage going into the last half of the ALMS season.
